NIPT: Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing for Accurate Risk Assessment during Pregnancy

NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing) is a screening test that assesses the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus during pregnancy. It is an important test because it offers a non-invasive approach, requiring only a maternal blood sample, and provides highly accurate results.

NIPT is recommended for pregnant women, particularly those with advanced maternal age, a previous history of chromosomal abnormalities, or positive results from other screening tests.

It allows for early detection of conditions like Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, and Patau syndrome, helping expectant parents make informed decisions about their pregnancy and potential further diagnostic testing.
