Sterling Accuris Diagnostics offers Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test in Bhuj to assess autoimmune type I diabetes mellitus.
Overview of Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test
Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test is done to detect the presence of autoantibodies directed against antigens present in the pancreatic islet cells. These antibodies destroy cells of the pancreatic islet of langerhans that produce insulin. This in-turn causes Type I Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) also known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). It is a chronic disease and the affected individual shows chronic insulin deficiency. T1DM generally occurs in genetically susceptible individuals. T1DM occurs at a variable rate and symptoms arise when approximately 80–90% of pancreatic cells are destroyed.
Find Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test near you to diagnose T1DM on time. Sterling Accuris Diagnostics offers a reliable Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test in Bhuj.
Why And When Is An Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test Done?
An Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test checks the auto-antibodies against constituents of pancreatic beta cells, the IA-2 secretory protein.
A doctor may recommend Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test if a person exhibit following symptoms:
- Frequent urination
- Feeling very thirsty
- Fatigue

- Instructions: Fasting not required

- Sample type: Blood
How to interpret Insulin Autoantibodies (IA2) Test Report?
This test quantitatively determines the presence of autoantibodies to IA2 in blood samples by immunoassays. The reference range for the antibody against IA2 is following:
- Reference Range: 0 - 7.49 U/mL
- Values above the reference range indicate presence of T1DM (Onset/Progression) depending upon the quantity of antibodies.
FAQs
How is T1DM different from T2DM?
The reason behind the occurrence of T1DM and T2DM is different. T1DM is caused due to destruction of the pancreatic islet’s B-cells; so, the individual is unable to produce insulin. But, in the case of T2DM the B-cell is good but it does not produce enough insulin. Additionally, due to insulin receptor insensitivity the body cells become unresponsive to insulin and do not cause required regulation over the glucose formed.
Which other autoantibodies are formed in T1DM?
In addition to IA2 antibodies, some other autoantibodies are also formed against pancreatic cell’s constituents that include –
- anti-glutamic decarboxylase (anti-GAD),
- anti-insulin (IAA),
- anti-Islet cell (ICA) and
- Anti-transporter 8 zinc (anti-ZnT8).
At least one of these autoantibodies has been found to be present in 95% of the individuals who have T1DM.
Can T1DM be caused due to environmental factors?
Certain studies show that environmental factors may trigger the autoimmune process depending upon the particular region. Like people prone to frequent viral infections has been associated with increased T1DM risk.
