Sterling Accuris Diagnostics offers the PLA2 Receptor Antibody Quantitative Test in Mahuva to identify primary membranous glomerulonephritis.
Overview of PLA2 Receptor Antibody Quantitative Test
The PLA2 Receptor Antibody Quantitative Test is performed to detect an autoimmune disorder of the kidney that occurs due to the production of auto-antibodies against the phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) of kidney cells. This in-turn causes primary membranous glomerulonephritis (PMN). PMN is one of the most important causes for kidney disorder called idiopathic nephrotic syndrome particularly in nondiabetic adults. Almost 70% of PMN patients have been found to be positive for PLA2R antibody and thus this test helps in diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of this disorder.

How to Interpret the PLA2 Receptor Antibody Quantitative Test Report
The PLA2 Receptor Antibody Quantitative Test is done by performing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA). The IgG antibodies are quantified by this method. The quantification of antibodies present in blood serum helps to stage the disease PMN. The following are the normal/elevated labels of PLA2 receptor:
Quantity of PLA2R (RU/mL) | Remark |
<14 | Negative |
14-20 | Borderline |
>20 | Positive |
Higher the amount of antibody present, higher is the pathological stage of PMN.
FAQs
What is nephrotic syndrome?
Nephrotic syndrome is the collective term for a range of symptoms that occur as a result of the kidneys being compromised due to various factors. The chief symptom of this condition is proteinuria – the passage of an excessive amount of protein through urine. This syndrome takes hold when the filtration units in the kidneys are damaged, thereby hampering the filtration process.
What is glomeruli?
Glomeruli, the pivotal cells of the kidney, serve as the cardinal filtering unit or the key functional unit. Their functions involve the presence of a unique set of capillaries which filter impurities from the blood, refining it into urine.
