LAP Score Test in Petlad

x

Sterling Accuris offers the
LAP Score test in Petlad to measure the presence of alkaline phosphatase enzymes in specific white blood cells. It is commonly used in the diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).

Overview of the LAP Score Test

Alkaline phosphatase, an enzyme group in our body, is responsible for a number of functions throughout the body, present in a higher concentration in the liver, kidney, bone tissue, bile duct, and placenta of pregnant women. Leukocyte alkaline phosphatase (LAP) is a type of alkaline phosphatase in leukocytes, also known as white blood cells (WBC).

In cases of diseases like chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), the white blood cells contain lower levels of leukocyte alkaline phosphatase than normal. To help diagnose or rule out such conditions, doctors may order this LAP score test. A score between 13 and 130 is considered normal, while higher scores may indicate the aforementioned conditions. Once the results are available, your doctor will discuss them with you, explaining their significance and recommending further steps.

Sterling Accuris offers a highly sensitive LAP Score test in Petlad with timely reports.

FAQs

How is the LAP score calculated?

The LAP score is determined by counting one hundred neutrophils (and/or bands) and evaluating the degree of stain retention in each of these cells. A score ranging from 0 (no stain retained) to 4 (intense staining caused by granules retaining the stain) is assigned to each cell.

What other tests are used to diagnose CML?

CML can be diagnosed before symptoms appear using a blood test called a complete blood count (CBC). This test measures the various types of cells in the blood. Genetic testing is preferred to confirm diagnosis including:

  • Karyotyping

  • Fluorescence in situ hybridisation

  • Polymerase chain reaction

Imaging tests include:

  • CT Scan

  • MRI

  • Ultrasound
