FAQ

What is reverse blood grouping?

Analyzing the A and B antigens in a patient's red blood cells with known anti-A and anti-B sera is carried out through forward grouping. In contrast, reverse grouping examines for potential antibodies existing in serum against cell components containing ABO group antigens. These two tests are conducted systematically to ensure precision of results.

Why is blood group testing essential during pregnancy?

If the mother is Rh -ve and carries an Rh +ve baby, it leads to a condition called Rh incompatibility. Usually, the first pregnancy is unaffected, but future pregnancies are at risk, i.e.2nd or 3rd babies. These babies are prone to develop a haemolytic disease of neonates (HDN) - a severe, life-threatening condition.

Sterling Accuris Diagnostics offers a Blood Group Test in Sanand to identify your blood group.

Overview of Blood Group Test (ABO typing)

The Blood group test is a fundamental blood test that tells about the blood type in our body. Blood type is categorized as per the type of antigen present on the RBC surface, which includes - A, B, and AB.

The blood group test checks two parameters - ABO and Rhesus typing to identify the type of antigen present in your blood and helps your doctor respond according to the patient's needs.

Why And When Is A Blood Group Test Done?

A blood group test is necessary, particularly when someone urgently needs a blood transfusion or blood donation. Any incompatibility in blood type during a transfusion can cause a severe immune reaction and lead to life-threatening consequences.

Sterling Accuris offers a reliable Blood Group Test in   Sanand  to facilitate medical and personal needs.

A doctor may recommend a Blood Group Test for the following reasons:

  • Injury that results in massive blood loss
  • Bleeding during/after surgery
  • Medical condition that needs a frequent blood transfusion, like Sickle cell anemia
  • Bleeding disorders like hemophilia
  • Cancer treatment that might need a blood transfusion
  • Antenatal check up
  • If you wish to donate blood

A blood group test is also recommended for the following reasons:

  • If you are a part of an organ or bone marrow transplant
  • For forensic testing
  • To identify blood relations in paternity suits
  • To study population emergence of a different kind

Blood Group test: Main Highlights

  • Instructions: Fasting is not required
  • Recommended age group: All age groups
  • Sample type: Blood sample in EDTA or plain (serum) tube

How to interpret Blood Group Test Report

Blood Group test: Identifies the type of blood a person has by testing two parameters - ABO typing and Rhesus D (Rh D) typing. A, B, or O antigens and Rh (D antigen) are determined through the antigen-antibody agglutination/clump method.

ABO typing: Identifies four blood types A, B, O, and AB. The unknown blood sample is mixed with type A and B antibodies (Forward method). The reverse approach combines the blood serum with a known blood type sample.

Following both methods gives accurate and reliable results.

  • Type A blood: Has antigen A and reacts with anti-A antibody
  • Type B blood: Has antigen B and reacts with the anti-B antibody
  • Type O blood Has no antigen and reacts with none of the antibodies
  • Type AB blood: Has both antigens A and B and reacts with both antibodies
